Well, I’ve never been to Italy but my cousin lives there. According to her, shopping is completely different. Americans are much more extravagent. They shop more often and buy more things in a single shopping trip. Also, kitchens in Italy have MUCH less storage than America, so Italians tend to buy enough groceries for a few days. Americans tend to buy groceries in bulk-enough to last a couple of weeks to a month.
My cousin says that her neighbors and friends in Italy consider Nike shoes a luxury. They cost 2 or 3 times more than in America. On the upside, Italian brands like Prada and Dolce & Gabbana are cheaper in Italy.
My cousin says that Italians in general are far less materialistic than Americans. They don’t go overboard on shopping like we do! They have extremely lower standards.
